Narf! Just in the middle of the exams rapidshare.com decided they’d give their website a little makeover (for the worse I think). This affects the login and link-check process in RSDownloader 2.1. I managed to fix the application in a jiffy (about half an hour) and now it’s up and running again. I also added a failsafe, as of this version (something I should have done in the first place), the success-strings can be found and changed in the settings.xml file. So if RS.com goes in for restyling again, this won’t require me to rewrite code…

Here’s what you should do:

New users: nothing, just download the latest version here.

Updaters:

1) If you would like to keep your settings file, backup settings.xml from the install directory somewhere. If you can ditch your settings, read the bold line below.

2) Uninstall RSDownloader.

3) Download the new version here.

4) Add the bold lines to your backed up settings.xml file so it looks like this:

<Configuration>
……
<SuccesString>Overview of the Account</SuccesString>
<DownloadSuccessString>like to download the following file</DownloadSuccessString>
</Configuration>

5) Save and copy the file to the install directory and start her up!

Note that if you are willing to reconfigure the entire app (which might not be that much work…), just a reinstall and an install will do fine!

FYI : All download links have been updated…

Yes, I do expect gratitude!

BTW: all older versions of RSDownloader will not work anymore, accept the multiplatform downloader… => USE RSDownloader 2.2!

Thank you for the update !
But I’m really sorry to inform you, it doesn’t work for me. It still prompt me “Invalid login”. I’m a new user, and I downloaded the “RSDownloader21_update.msi” file. I checked my credentials and even tried to change password, but it still won’t work…

Thanks Dominiek, it works! Fantastic work.

Wish you all the nest with your exams, do well .. you can play later!

Whenever I start study for exams I would get fantastic new ideas..

    Some observations on 2.0::
I was using 2.0till yesterday and found 2.1 when 2 stopped working. A couple of days ago I found that one particular file size was varying every time I attempted to D/L and then it failed and eventually when did get it down it was corrupt. I then tried through the browser and that worked.

If you try to download an already downloaded file, the the file is second time downloaded and appended to the first one. A 100mb file then becomes 200 mb.

    A bit of contradiction here,

gnieofmars, I think you still downloaded the old version, please do an uninstall, download the file in the post and do a reinstall, that should fix it… There was a small problem yesterday, the download links still referred to the “unfixed” version, and as Raj informs us a few hours later everything seemed to work (he’s also a new user…), if you still have problems feel free to mail me!

Raj: I also noticed this, when I have the time this ‘ll be fixed… Just make sure for now you don’t download the same file again after it has finished :-)

    thx for the feedback!

Thanks for the reply Domniek. The update works fine, I have not worked it hard as yet!

In version 2 I would a finished indication for a incomplete download, thats why sometimes I had to re-start the same download.

A recent problem with a modem made the speed vary between zero and 1MBps which made the downloads go crazy. That was due to some modem fault. Using a temp. but eyeing a Zyxel modem 660HW.

    Now back to your studies..

    Hello,
I have been using RS Downloader v. 1.0 for a while and i love it. Now it says i cannot login. Is there anyway u could fix it please?
I like v. 1.0 because its simple… the new versions have many features which i dont need.

If u could help me, it will be great

    thanks
    tony

    Hey there Tony,

All previous version (lower than 2.1) will no longer work. I’m “afraid” you have to use the 2.1 version, I assure you it’s not feature-bloathed and it sure is more appealing to the eye :-)

As you will understand it would be alot of work to update older versions and all that work really isn’t worth it because the 2.1 version outperforms all it’s predecessors…

After many trys with the help of Dominiek, we finally make it works.
My problem is that my “Premium Account” were using the old layout. To make it work, I had to close the log in box, set my credentials in the “Settings” menu, save, then quit the program, edit the setting.xml file to make it looks like this :

    Hello
like to download the following file

If you are having the same issue, it should works this way.
    Thanks to Dominiek !

    Hi Dominiek,

RsDownloader is by far the best. Thx for fixing it.

When it stopped working I downloaded RS manager.

Boy what a piece of crap that is. It hogs 100% cpu and downloads at at trickle no matter what speed you set it for.

I told them to go learn something from you…

Anyway thx again and best of luck on your exams. (Altough I doubt you will need that.)

    Cheers m8!

    Hi Dominiek,

When you are done with exams, could you make some change to your smart paste?

Read the clip board buffer from the end and stop and the first http you encounter and add that to the download list. This will remove anonymz dot com and similar prefixes in links.

    Thanks!
